TORONTO: To launch its social media campaign, Toyota asked Canadians “Are you Toyota’s #1 fan?”.  Thousands flocked to Toyota Canada’s new Facebook page and enhanced twitter feed over the last few months to share their stories as part of a contest to find Toyota’s #1 Fan.  This extensive coast-to-coast online conversation has demonstrated just how passionate Canadians are when it comes to their Toyota vehicles.

ToyotaOut of over 1,500 eligible entries, six people with extraordinary connections to Toyota have emerged as the contest’s finalists. Voting is on now to help determine a grand-prize winner, who will walk away with a Toyota vehicle of their choice (up to $50,000 value). The finalists were selected based on the relevance of their stories to the theme of Toyota’s #1 Fan, and the number of views that their entries received.

“Each of these finalists has an incredible and unique story of pride and passion in Toyota,” said Stephen Beatty, Managing Director at Toyota Canada Inc. “We thank everyone who participated for sharing their enthusiasm and personal connections to our brand and our products. This contest has demonstrated how eager Toyota owners are to share their stories with us and with each other and we hope to continue the conversation.”
The six finalists vying to be named Toyota’s #1 Fan in Canada are:
  • René Boulet (Montreal,QC) – The Toyota Corolla is René’s favourite car and he has four different generations of Corollas to prove it.
  • Isaac Elliott-Fisher (Guelph,ON) – Isaac has such a passion for the Toyota Land Cruiser that he travelled across North America to make a documentary about the vehicle.
  • Nathan Hayashi (Calgary,AB) – Nathan couldn’t keep his enthusiasm for off-roading in his Toyota truck to himself, and he now has a following that has attracted hundreds.
  • Michel Levesque (New Denmark, NB) – Since his first Corona in 1975, Michel has enjoyed more than 40 Toyotas of every model and description.
  • Jody McMurray (Cochrane,AB) – If this veterinarian didn’t have her Toyota to traverse some of the toughest roads in Canada, she wouldn’t be able to do her job of saving wild animals.
  • Judy Nadeau (Burlington,ON) – Nearly two decades ago, Judy’s son walked away from a frightening car accident thanks to the Toyota Tercel he was driving at the time. Judy has been faithful to Toyota ever since.
Short videos sharing the unique stories of each finalist can be viewed at http://toyotatoday.ca/. Anyone can vote for their favourite, as often as once per day. Voting closes on May 20. The grand prize winner, who will receive a Toyota of their choice (up to $50,000 value), will be announced on June 1, 2011. Two secondary prizes of a Panasonic HD camcorder will be awarded. In addition, anyone who votes is eligible to win a weekly prize of a $100 gas card.
The finalists were selected based on a combination of the number of views of their individual submissions received and their relevance to the contest theme, as determined by a panel of judges. Participants were encouraged to use their own social media channels to increase their unique entry views.
